The Caledonian Club I Hitachi chiller project in London, UK

Chiller

The place: A classic Scottish Members Club founded in 1891 requires cooling during summer

Located in the elegant streets of Belgravia neighborhood, The Caledonian Club is an institution for the Scottish community of London. The clubhouse includes a large dining room, a bar with its collection of over 200 whiskies, accommodation, and a suite of beautiful functions rooms for events, meetings and weddings.

The solution: Hitachi compact chiller easily fit within existing HVAC structure

A problematic chiller was previously installed, ineffectively cooling the Club’s function rooms and kitchens across four floors. In needs of a replacement, the choice became obvious to go for Hitachi Samurai air-cooled screw chiller. Thanks to its new twin screw compressor and compact size, the Samurai chiller could be installed in the small space available on the building’s rooftop.

“Hitachi screw chiller was the only 'off the shelf' chiller that would fit into the space available”

To avoid disrupting the Club’s activities, the retrofit works were kept to a minimum. The previous air handling units (AHU) could be retained, preserving the centennial interior elements of the venue.

The Hitachi chiller now successfully cools the venue during events and hot summer days, providing reliability and energy savings to the Club.
